The world-known mezzo-soprano singer Jelena Obrazcovová was born in 1939 in Leningrad. She spent her early childhood in the period of blockades in the city during the Second World War. Since 1954 she studied at the music school in Rostov upon Don and then she was accepted to the conservatoire in Leningrad. Already throughout her study years she won several singing competitions. In 1963 she received an invitation to the opera choir in the Great Theatre in Moscow. She entered the European music scene by a successful concert in Paris. What ensued were triumphal performances in La Scala in Milano, the Metropolitan Opera in New York and on many other important stages of the world. Nowadays she devotes time to pedagogical activities in Moscow and in Sankt Petersburg.
