Galsan Tschinag, a renowned Mongolian writer, poet and medicine man, was born at Christmas 1944 in the Altai Mountains in the small ethnic group of the Tuvins, a group with no written language of its own. After his studies in Germany, he returned to his native country and became Professor of the German language at the State Mongolian University.  At the age of 36, the doctors discovered that Galsan suffered under a serious heart disease. This lead to the fact that he started to use the medicine-man abilities more intensively. Although, he currently lives in Ulaanbaatar, he spends a part of the year by travelling through Europe. He introduces his literary works mainly in German-speaking countries. He writes in the German language, but his books are translated to many world languages.
