Vladimír Lekeš is an expert and admirer of the work of the famous ar chitect Adolf Loos. One of his most important deeds was the restoration of the interior furnishings of the Richard Hirsch apartment, which is considered one of Loos’ most important projects in Pilsen. Lekeš purchased the furniture in 1988 and after restoring it to its original glory, he installed it in a flat in Prague’s Jewish Quarter and opened the doors to the public. He was one of the first in the Czech Republic to start dealing in František Kupka’s art, and his company, Adolf Loos Apartment and Gallery (ALAG), is also behind record sales of paintings by Kup ka and many other Czech painters. Lekeš has donated a seating group designed by architect Josef Hoffman to the Moravian Gallery in Brno and a František Kupka bust for memorials to the painter in Opočno and Paris. ALAG has also made free loans of tens of paintings and art objects to Czech state institutions, including the Ostrava Gallery of Fine Arts’ main attraction View of Moravian Ostrava II by Oskar Kokoschka. Lekeš’ latest success is the completion of the first catalogue raisonné detailing the oil paintings of František Kupka, a collaborative effort of ALAG, the National Gallery in Prague and the Belvedere Museum in Vienna. This event was connected to the Kupka exhibition of paintings from domestic and international collections held at Prague’s Mánes Gallery. Vladimír Lekeš is also listed as the only Czech expert in the prestigious Guide International des Experts & Spécialistes.
